My DIY new studio

After the moving has been decided, the only thing I can think of is my new studio. I am drawing sketches, designing and redesigning shelves and their positioning, mentally arranging everything around: the coffee table and sofa, shelves for the owls, supplies boxes, desk light, etcetera, etcetera.

Browsing the Internet this week with all these thoughts going through my mind, I made a short list of DIY projects I would like to try for my new studio. They are really fun and easy to make, plus the end result is very satisfying.

The light bulb terrarium is a must. It’s so cute, green and pretty. I’ve been meaning to do one for some time, but the light bulb version convinced me all right. Very detailed instructions, nice photos and all, on The Hipster Home.

Instead of buying new ceiling lamps, I might try the paper lanterns. I can easily reuse the frames from the old ones, and make nice origami forms (flowers, stars, butterflies or abstract forms) to cover the frame. Nice, inspirational images and step by step tutorial from Craftynest.

I just love simple and surprising ideas, like making a ceiling decoration with… pegs. I found a short article on 3 Sheets, and I thought I could give it a try. Since there is only one ceiling I can play with, I have to decide if it’ll be a peg decoration or a paper lamp. Or if there’s a way around having them both. Or negotiating for the living room ceiling, too, maybe…

If I ever thought of throwing away that old chair, Kirsty from Kootoyoo made me change my mind. The combination looks great, so delicate and eye-catching. All I have to do is put that hook and fingers to work now. Photo from here.

I don’t want to bring you with the feet back on the ground after all these great ideas, but I would like to share with you some useful tools. If you’re overwhelmed by the crafty community blogging, go take a look/listen at Google Reader tricks for craft bloggers (video) and Keeping up with the crafty Internet (a podcast interview with Rachel Klein from One Pretty Thing). If you are new or inexperienced in using Google Analytics, or maybe want a refresh of the info you already have, check out The missing Google Analytics manual (via swissmiss).

Closing up with a career advice, which I know will keep me going next week, and even beyond: The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life. (Jessica Hische via Distractivity)

Have a nice rest of the Sunday and a great week everybody!
