Who?
My name is Anca and I am a 29 years old Capricorn from Bucharest, Romania.
I graduated Sociology and Public Relations, worked in several PR firms and a corporation, but decided it infinitely more fun to be my own boss, so here I am, a corporate dropout, turned freelance translator, coffee shop owner and hobby collector.
What?
This is my haven of handmade fun and creativity hopscotch. I started Happy hang around in 2010 (find the archives of the first two years //here//) and since then I had the chance to try many fun things, get to know many great people and play like never before (except for when I was a child, too long ago…). Beginning of 2012 (it’s actually January 1st when I type this), I decided to make a change in what and how I write on this blog, and this is the new Happy hang around. Hope you will enjoy the visit.
Care to find out why “Happy hang around”? Head over //here//.
Why?
I discovered the handmade world a couple of years ago and it reminded me of the times I used to fix things around the house with my grandpa and to sew clothes for my dolls or how my great-grandmother taught me crochet and needlepoint. I started buying handmade, because it felt cozy and warm and it felt like it made a difference. I believe that small handmade businesses should be supported and that they are our chance to change something in the way we buy and use things. Soon enough, all my childhood skills of doing things by hand came back to me and the overwhelming possibilities in terms of techniques, supplies, inspiration pushed me in all directions. Two years later, I think I know what I want to be doing by hand. But I won’t keep myself from trying new things, as well.
An idea I stumbled upon in the www, first over at A place for Twiggs. A list of random things about me.
- I was raised by my grandparents, to whom I owe everything I am
- I have a younger sister who is a photographer and I am so very proud of her
- I took Japanese classes for 12 years and visited Japan once, but I forgot almost everything. どうもありがとうございました。
- I often listen to music on repeat
- I would like to travel around the world
- I own two coffee shops and a small translations agency, with the guy in my life
- I don’t like twitches, yet I love daily or personal rituals
- My favorite movie quote is: “And this is how the cookie crumbles”
- I am day-dreaming about having my own home with a garden. Someday
- I started running last year (2011) and I love it
- I can’t decide whether I am a dog person or a cat person, so I probably am both
- I think music is the best thing that has happened to human kind
- I believe in not doing to others what you wouldn’t want to experience yourself and this should be enough for a quiet world
- I start a lot of things, yet I have some trouble seeing them through. I am working in finding a cure for that
- I love foreign languages and I want to (properly) learn French, German, Spanish. For starters
- In the winter of 2009, I started collecting owls. Now I have more than 300 of them
- I love film photography, although I rather neglected my 4 cameras lately
- I don’t like spinach, but it might be because I never tried it
- I would like to move to London or somewhere in Japan
- I hope to visit New York someday
- Long time ago, I use to dance a lot. I miss it
- I want to take step lessons
- I love horses and horseback riding
- I feel way younger that 29, people say I look younger, too.
- Once, I fell in love via the Internet. We met. I fell out of love just as quickly.
- I believe love is to be there, to go through things together, to respect and to listen to one another. Tough, right?
- I am a sucker for all things technology and gadgetry. I bought a telephoto lens for my iPhone
- If I will feel strong enough to have kids someday, I want twins (boy and girl)
- This summer (2012), I plan on wearing at least a dress, at least once. It’s been at least 6 years since I last wore a dress

Bucket list
In the middle of nowhere, in a little boat floating on the Danube, one finds a certain peace, a certain understanding of things around. This is the sophisticated way of saying I saw a lake full of water lilies leaves, and I wanted to note somewhere that I would like to see a lake full of water lilies in bloom. This was the beginning of my bucket list.
- See a lake full of water lilies
- Run a marathon
- Visit new York
