Take 5 for creativity: Contemporia

It’s been quite some time since the last interview in my Take 5 for creativity series, but we are back, with a very nice feature. Today I give you Contemporia, born out of the vision and common passion of two designers: Ioana Streza and Alex Burlacu.

They started working together in the field of jewelry in 2014, a year after graduating Assamblage School of Contemporary Jewelry and setting up their own workshop. Since then, they participated in exhibitions, competitions and fairs and launched a couple of jewelry collections together. With a background in architecture and an incredible eye for details, they create unique jewelry pieces, in which stories and materials blend to perfection.

You can find them on their website/online shop, on Facebook and Instagram.

What is talent? What is creativity?

Talent is the ability to transpose ideas into materiality, so that the message reaches others as less altered as possible; creativity is the ability to make unexpected connections.

contemporia1

Does creativity need limits?

I think it’s among the few things that don’t need limits.

contemporia2

How do you fuel your creativity?

Detaching from everyday reality: reading, learning about new things, listening to music etc.

contemporia5

What do you need to create?

First motivation, I have to know that something is going to happen with our work after it is finished, it will have an audience, the message we are trying to send will have a receiver; besides motivation, silence and time.

contemporia6

What is your advice for people who (try to) create?

To accumulate information in fields as varied as possible, have new experiences, read more.

I hope you enjoyed this short, but sweet interview. Ioana and Alex are rather discreet and not very talkative, but I guess you can see from their work a different way of saying things. As a sign of encouragement, kindly say hello by stopping by their Facebook page or Instagram account. Shopping their work would mean the world to them, as it would to any other artist I can think of.

If you’d like to read more about creativity, here you can find all the lovely people who took their time to join my quest. You are more than welcome to become part of this series, I’ll be expecting to hear from you.
